Coloma's sound is influenced by geography: Rob Taylor and Alex Paulick live in Cologne, Germany - a city well known for its flourishing electronic music scene. But they originate from England, and grew up listening to pop songs. This helps explain the duo's unique combination of songwriting and sound-design...
Their 2002 debut 'Silverware' was praised throughout the German music press, but Coloma first caught the attention of international audiences after their appearance at the Sonar festival in Barcelona. In April 2003 Coloma released their second album, 'Finery'.
Coloma is the duo of vocalist Rob Taylor and producer Alex Paulick. The Englishmen reside in Germany and signed with Mathias Schaffhuser's Ware label for their debut album, 2002's Silverware. They returned the following year with the phenomenal Finery, recorded at Conny Plank's studio and also released on Ware. The album was a brilliant headfirst dive into previously unchartered waters, a cross between minimal dance music and sophisti-pop. Two years later, they released the relatively organic Dovetail on Klein, featuring a horn section and several other guest instrumentalists. Outside of the group, Taylor leant his voice to Schaffhuser's cover of Icehouse's "Hey Little Girl," and Paulick has played bass in Kreidler. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide (from mp3.com)
